winner of the weekThis week we have 2 great winners, Performancing and Search Engine Journal. Now that it’s a beginning of a new year, both sites are running polls for the best blogs of 2007. It’s a great time to clean up your feed readers and add some new blogs that you may not have been exposed to before. Winning the Web isn’t included on either of those ballots, but come next year, WTW should be running in full force! You might as well subscribe to the RSS feed now. ;)

Performancing Awards 2007 Reader’s Choice Poll
The Performancing poll features 28 different award categories including everything from Best Blog Web Host to Best Blog Name. This list isn’t confined to Internet marketing so it’s good to see what else is out there and how different industries are performing in terms of blogging. Be sure to cast your votes by January 10th.

Search Engine Journal - Search Blogs Awards of 2007
Search Engine Journal’s poll of the best blogs is limited to sites covering aspects of Internet marketing, search engines, SEO, and affiliate marketing. If you’re involved in online business or search marketing, you should definitely pay attention. All of the nominees are authoritative blogs that offer tons of useful information and it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top. In fact, my feed reader might welcome some new blogs depending on the results. Voting is currently over, but results will be released tomorrow, Jan 7th.

Below are some of the other stories I found interesting this past week:

  • 5 Simple Ways To Get More Blog Traffic In 2008
    Other than sharing his tips about getting an AMEX Black card, Neil Patel lays down 5 simple ways to gain more blog traffic in 2008. They are very simple, but very useful tricks that are overlooked by most people. I especially like the tip of manually verifying inactive Feedburner email subscriptions.
  • Your Blog Sucks and I Got 20 Reasons To Back It Up
    I like to remain positive, but Sly takes a different approach with this very blunt post explaining 20 reasons why your blog “sucks”. If your blog is victim to any of the reasons mentioned, try to take action and improve in 2008.
  • How An Advice Column Can Help Your Blog Get More Loyal Readers
    Maki of Dosh Dosh puts out yet another quality article, this time about using an advice column to attain more loyal readers for your blog. This is a tactic that I definitely want to pursue for Winning the Web in the future. Once the blog gains even more traction and subscribers, I’ll be opening up the floor for questions on how I did it.
  • How To Get Worthless Adsense Clicks
    If you’re running a website targeted towards webmasters, your click-through rate can be insanely low. Webmasters simply do not like to click on ads. Many people don’t know this, but it can adversely affect your Adsense payouts. Courtney Tuttle describes the negative effects of smart pricing and how you can avoid it to make the most money possible.
  • 7 Reasons you Should be Advertising on Blogs
    Advertising on blogs is an extremely useful way to get your message across to a targeted audience of influential people. Chad Randall lists 7 reasons why you should be advertising on blogs. If you need a head start, consider advertising on Winning the Web. :)

    Don’t worry about your blog not being on this year’s ballot. Both mine and yours will be on the next one for sure. :)

    By the way, thanks again for the mention of my post!

    I definitely appreciate the two websites in question, but, as far as awards and polls are concerned, I’m not that much of a fan :)

    Eh, these blog awards are just lame excuses for popularity contests. They feed off the egoism of bloggers by creating artificial popularity contests.

    By Alan Johnson on Jan 8, 2008

    Actually, I have to admit that not all awards are useless, it’s just that, as a blogger, my readers are “voting” for me every time they visit my website and that’s all of the recognition I need :)

    @Sly
    No problem. You wrote up a great post. Let’s hope both of our blogs are on the ballots next year.

    @Alan Johnson
    It’s a popularity contest if anything but still it opens people’s eyes to what resources are available.

    @Simon Owens
    That might be true, but egoism does work.
