The SEO Trick That Pharma Spammers Use to Make $600,000+ a Month Through Google

Don’t you just hate link spammers? I don’t know about you, but I’m always annoyed by pharma links like “buy viagra online” and “phentermine” that show up everywhere I go online, especially in blog comments and forum posts. In fact, if you run a site that allows user-generated content, I’m sure you’ve come across at least a few of these. So what gives? Why is link spam so out of control?
The fact of the matter is that spam exists because there’s a lot of money to be made in it. The online pharmaceutical industry, for example, is extremely lucrative and thus has a lot of competition. Like it or not, the big guns of Internet marketing play in these competitive industries (e.g. pharma, porn, and mortgages) and resort to very aggressive tactics to come out on top and make a fortune.
So am I recommending that you get involved in these niches and start spamming? No, of course not. I hate spam just as much as you do and I find that the strategies used to promote things like Viagra pills are very sleazy. I would never get into anything like that and I’m completely against it.
However, there’s no denying that some of the more aggressive tactics used in these industries are highly effective and cutting edge (especially with SEO). In fact, many of the more subtle conversion and ranking techniques used by spammers tend to have a way of eventually being incorporated into the mainstream. In no way am I endorsing spam, but I think that you can learn many valuable lessons by analyzing it and seeing what works. It can also give you a better understanding of the mechanism behind Google’s search algorithm. Spam probably isn’t going away any time soon so you might as well make the most of it and figure out how it works. Let’s dig in.
In this case study, I show you the sites that are ranking in Google for a small set of competitive pharma-related keywords and analyze the kinds of numbers the sites are bringing in. I then take you step-by-step how these spammers are achieving success with SEO and give you some key lessons you can apply to your own sites (ethically of course) based on these tactics.
