Win a Free $400 Review From John Chow – You Can’t Miss This
December 5, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park
Want to explode your site’s traffic for the holiday season rush? Many Internet and technology-related sites have experienced exceptional results by receiving a paid review from JohnChow.com, a blog that has over 14,000 loyal RSS subscribers and generates over $27,000 per month in revenue. In fact, you can view some of the John Chow review case studies below:
Winning the Web was just recently reviewed and to maximize exposure I am giving away a John Chow review free of charge. A review usually costs $400 through ReviewMe but I’m literally going to go ahead and buy it for you and your website of choice. This has never been done before on any site so you don’t want to miss out on this great opportunity.
Here’s how it’s going to work
For the next 2 weeks, I am going to display a scrambled word/phrase, adding 1 letter at a time in 11 upcoming posts. These letters can only be viewed in a feed reader so you must subscribe to the Winning the Web RSS feed. The 11 scrambled letters, when unscrambled, make up a phrase/word. Be the first to guess what it is, and you win the John Chow review.
Recap on how to win
- Subscribe to the Winning the Web RSS feed.
- Look for letters at the end of upcoming Winning the Web posts.
- Unscramble the 11 letters and be the first to figure out the correct word/phrase.
- Win a free John Chow review to advertise your site.
Some rules
- Letters will be added to the scrambled message in random upcoming posts on Winning the Web. You must subscribe to the RSS feed to view it.
- To take a guess at the unscrambled word/phrase, you must comment on this post.
- You can guess what the word/phrase is at any time in the process, but only 1 entry per person (by website & ip address).
- You must enter the web site you want reviewed when commenting on this post.
- Winner will be announced Friday, December 21, 2007.
Hint
- The unscrambled code is made up of 2 words (11 letters total) and is a ‘thing’.
I will also be providing additional hints randomly in upcoming posts. So it’s important that you subscribe to the feed and check back often. Good luck!

Update (Dec 8th) : Due to the strong response and participation levels of this contest, I am going to go even further and add an additional prize. What’s the prize you ask? A John Cow review! ($200 value). JohnCow.com rose to fame as a unique John Chow copycat but now has over 800 RSS subscribers and offers a winning perspective on making moo-ney online.
The John Cow review will go to a random commentator on all Winning the Web posts in December. However, the winner will be announced via RSS feed so it’s still important to subscribe. The winner then has 24 hours to claim the prize. Otherwise, a new winner will be chosen.
If you like this post, subscribe to the RSS feed. Get the latest updates FREE.

.
Hmm.. I can’t subscribe… I get the error:
“The feed does not have subscriptions by email enabled”
Any ideas?
PS Congrats on the publicity push! Shoemoney and John Chow plugs in the same day! Good work. Shoe’s blog brought me here, your contest is brilliant. You’ve won over a devoted reader.

I subscribed to your feed Gyutae when I won your first blog audit contest. Way to go Gyutae.
Great idea I should say… I owe my first online dollars to the Great John Chow… I am planning to write a review worth $50 in my blog for free in praise of johnchow.com.
Looking forward to your feeds…
I subscribed as well!
Subscribed to your feed!!

Subscribed amazing contest and great offer!
I subscribed to your feed.
Great idea and great promotion. First time I have heard of your site so already working
.
I subscribed to the feed and ready to give it a go.
Couple questions…I assume the “one entry” is for the whole 11 days right? We can’t make a guess/entry after each new clue right?
And as far as needing to post the blog/site that would be reviewed if won, are we able to choose an affiliate product for him to review instead? I was actually hoping to have that done on his blog soon but just too broke right now lol.
Anyway, great idea and congrats on the traffic, feed subs, and new readers already!
I’m in!!!
I’m subscribed. When do the secret letters start? Next post? Tomorrow?

How do you put the specific content (letter) in the feed and not in the regular blog? Is there a plugin? code? Thanks.
(sorry put comment previously in another post by mistake)
Thanks to everyone for participating. This should turn out to be a great contest. May the best descrambler win!
@Tyler Cruz
Thanks for pointing this out. This issue has been resolved and you may now subscribe by email.
@Domain Name Tips
Yes, one entry is for the whole 11 days not after every new clue.
If you win you can have John Chow review anything you want. Just be warned that he is usually very blunt and this can actually hurt you.
@Turk Hit Box
Hmmm… is that going to be your final guess?
@Babak
I use a Wordpress plugin called Feed Footer to do this.

I too would like to enter the contest. Please add me to the list. Thanks.
Sign me up for the cow review. I want to hear what that copycow has to say about me.
Wow Gyutae! Another great idea. Let me in on that Cow review. Hehe. Great picture too, really cute cow. Haha. I can see that your blog’s growth has been explosive! Good job buddy!
Sign me up Gyutae, would love a review from either of them.
Wow this is getting too interesting. Moooo Wow..
Good job Gyutae
Nice way to get more traffic in! Kudos.
And yet another cool addiction. Only need a few more top bloggers to see this and offer up prizes for pretty much everyone in the industry to hear about the winners. Very cool.
And lol at chow wanting to win the cow review! Although I would love to win, I vote to let chow have it heheh.
Great contest.Very original idea(s)! I hope you’ll write a post detailing how it affected your blog income, traffic, comments, etc, etc, etc
Great Contest Prize addition in form of review at johnCow.com!
I wish I win..!
I’ve subscribed. Great idea!
What a great idea to get new RSS subscribers and commenters. Creative
Woah, I love to have the Cow review more than the Chow (is that why he eats so much?)review.
Why? I have been reading the Cow regularly, an I am always entertained by them.
Thanks for the continued support. This should get very interesting…
@bmunch
It’s ironic that although John Cow is the copycow, his style differs a lot from Chow. Both provide great stuff.
Great contest, I’m looking forward to following to the end.
Well you got me interested! I am ready to have a few guesses. How do we submit our guesses though. By email or by comments?
@motorsportBABESau
You are allowed only 1 guess per website/ip address. You can take your guess by commenting on this post. That way it keep things fair because everyone will be able to see who was first. All of this in in the rules section so make sure your read it thoroughly.
nice contest..would love to win a johncow.com review!
Great contest, I’ve subscribed.
I just hope John likes my blog when I win!
