Thirst is Nothing, Image is Everything

sprite can - image & thirstRemember that old Sprite commercial where the big sweaty basketball player runs around and does a few slam dunks, then grabs a nice cold bottle of Sprite and proudly proclaims the obviously scripted line, “Image is nothing, thirst is everything. Obey your thirst”? Well I’m going to come out right now and say that Sprite is full of crap. Thirst is nothing and image is everything. No matter how thirsty you are to accomplish your goals, no matter how hard you try, and no matter what you do to succeed in the online world, you will be spinning your wheels in futile efforts unless you portray the right IMAGE. Yeah, that’s right Sprite. Take that! Nothing but carbonated sugar water anyway.

A lot of webmasters hold on to the misconception that if they want something badly enough and work hard to get it, they will in fact get it. However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Thirst really amounts to nothing. Rather, it’s image that will really get you over the top. Here’s why.

A good image will let you do more with less

Want to make money with your blog? Try pumping out 10 posts per day that are interesting, unique, and helpful. What drive, what determination, what a load of bogus B.S. More is not necessarily better. With popularity and a good reputation, you can do more with a lot less. Improve on your image before you go and hurt yourself with a crazy workload.

A good image will attract industry leaders who will promote you for free

Flashback to high school. Say you were that kid who always sat in the front of class, wore suspenders, picked your boogers and named them, and had an ant farm at home you were extremely proud of. Then say that one day you decided to be bold and sit at a lunch table full of jocks and cheerleaders. What do you think would happen? If you want to fit in with the cool kids, you have to be a cool kid. In the same way, if you want to be an authoritative industry leader, you have to give off the impression and image of someone who is worthy to be considered. If your website is unknown or already has a bad reputation you can forget about anyone worthwhile noticing.

A good image builds trust

Trust is something that is earned and established through time. A good image and reputation go hand in hand with trust. Trust means people will rely on you for good content or quality service and this in turn means more links, referrals, and ultimately more profit. An image that fosters trust and care will go a long way for any business. This is especially true in the online world where people are wary of scammers and spammers.

A good image makes you more of an expert than you really are

A good image means you are able to get away with more mistakes. People will be more forgiving will small errors such as misspellings, servers being down, or mix ups. For new sites however, these small blunders can be very costly. For trusted sites, it’s nothing. How do you think ShoeMoney gets away with crappy sentence structure and misspellings everywhere? Also, a good image also allows you to venture into other topics you may not know a lot about but still want to express your opinions on. People are more likely to hear you out and consider you an expert, even if you’re really not.

Image is everything, thirst is nothing. Obey your image! What are you doing to improve your image today?
