I have several blogs running but my main one is definitely a "rambler" style blog.

I've built up reasonable traffic to it (often over 1000 hits a day). But as yet I have earned very little from it, just a few bucks in Adsense and the odd affiliate commission.

Problem with us ramblers is that our content is so eclectic. So the readers come via very diverse searches. And making money requires specificity and focus.

Still, it's a lot of fun, so I'll keep writing it.

[...] He actually rambles a lot about restaurants, posts pictures about his food, and parties with the blue man group. So what if John Chow rambles? You know that you’ll still return to his blog! His writing sounds “human” and really is able to connect with his readers. He has a nice, friendly blogging voice — a big reason that his readers are so loyal. Yeah, he does post a lot of pictures of his life, non-blogging related activities, and non-”make money online” activities, but he is a very effective “rambler.” [...]

Haha, thanks for your opinion Thomas. I'm with you on this one. When reading blog posts, I'm mostly looking to learn rather than be entertained. A combo of both is even better.

I agree with you. You can tell who's in it for the money and who's actually doing it because they're passionate about their subject and love to write.

With ramblers, you're following the person and not necessarily the blog. This leads to a great sticky effect.

Although I agree that sometimes ramblers can be addictive. For me personally they annoy me more often. Give me meaty posts full of content anyday over what you had for lunch...

Ramblers can be addictive. I've got to tell you, though. You have to be a very good writer. Most of these ramblers are too annoying to follow for more than one post.

Ramblers are much more entertaining and I think should have an easier time gaining subscribers. After all, people like to be entertained which makes it easier for them to subscribe to the ramblers blog.
