Page Rank Slam of Oct 2007 – A Slogan for Bloggers

October 25, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park

As you may know, many well-known and popular blogs and authoritative sites have been hit by a page rank slam the past couple of days. Some of these sites include Forbes, The Washington Post, Engadget, and Search Engine Roundtable just to name a few. Why did this happen? Well, there are many theories floating around but it seems like this is a warning from Google to sites selling or buying links or engaging in link practices that attempt to manipulate search engine results. However, despite the decrease in PR, these sites have the same level of traffic, if not more. We’ll see how this pans out, but for now this just looks like a scare tactic by Google to keep webmasters from selling links and to turn the whole link brokering industry upside down.

Anyway, Darren Rowse over at Problogger is hosting a competition for a Page Rank slam slogan. The point is to lighten the mood, have some fun, and make the most out of an unfortunate situation. Here’s my entry below:

Proven Methods for Rapid Page Rank Loss – Trim Page Rank Fast!

You’re right on. This is just a scare tactic + a scheme so it will be harder to tell which sites still pass link value to make it harder to buy and sell links, especially seeing that current prices for PR4 links are alot less than PR7 links. I think it will scare alot of people so they will never buy links. This is what Google wants. I don’t think pagerank will mean much anymore – it won’t be accurate.

I haven’t heard of one site that has lost rankings – only PR loss (Which is probably only externally). Who cares about PR. I just want the rankings.

Maybe people will finally focus less on PR and more on building good websites.

lol That’s a funny picture. Almost as funny as the Shoemoney/Oprah picture I saw somewhere.
Pissing Google off or one of its employees is probably the best way to screw yourself over.
