Joost de Valk aka Yoast - Winner of the Week

June 15, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park

joost de valkThis week I want to feature Dutch SEO, Joost de Valk, for all of his excellent work creating Wordpress plugins and resources. Joost (pronounced Yoast) lives in the Netherlands and is a knowledgeable SEO strategist who has spoken at popular search conferences like SES New York. What sets Joost apart from the competition is that he specializes in Wordpress SEO, writing extremely useful newsletters and plugins for the blogging platform.

Joost recently changed his site to Yoast.com to redesign to a more professional look and to better brand himself as an expert in the US. Looks great!

The main reason why Joost de Valk is Winning the Web’s winner of the week is because of his new article, Wordpress SEO - The Definitive Guide to High Rankings for Your Blog. Joost continues to impress me with his knowledge and expertise with Wordpress and I recommend every blogger study the article. Some of the topics are a little more advanced, but if you want to take your Wordpress blog to the next level, they are definitely worth learning.

Not only that, but Joost is an excellent Wordpress developer who has created some exceptional plugins that I use on Winning the Web. I especially like the following:

  • Sociable - Adds social bookmarking buttons on your blog posts
  • Google Analytics - A simple plugin that allows you to add Google Analytics code on your pages and to track outgoing links, downloads, Adsense clicks, and more.
  • Blog Metrics - Displays some useful blogging statistics such as average number of posts per month, average number of words per post, average number of comments per post, and average number of words used in comments to posts.
  • Meta Robots - This is one of my favorite SEO plugins because it allows you to easily add nofollow tags to links and to control the flow of search engine robots.
  • RSS Footer - Add a footer to all of your RSS feeds. The footer can include a copyright notice, a link to the post itself (for scraper sites), or basically anything else you want to stick in there.
  • Users to CSV - This plugin allows you to export all of your commenters into a CSV file. It’s very useful if you want to get in contact with multiple users and has saved me hours of work.

Many thanks to Joost de Valk for all of his efforts with Wordpress SEO. Congrats on being a winner!
