vday-rose.jpgHey all. I want to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day. I admit that it is basically a “Hallmark” holiday mainly created for commercial purposes, but I’m out in San Francisco right now visiting the girlfriend so I can’t complain. Whether you’re at home by yourself watching chick flicks or you’re out in the city for a hot date, there are tons of opportunities to profit from the occasion as an Internet marketer. If you need an idea for next year, see my step by step example on how to make money with Rocket Profit affiliate marketing.

In this post, I’ll be explaining how Internet marketing to your target audience is a lot like taking your date out for Valentine’s Day. Read below to find out more. You might as well if you don’t have anything better to do tonight. :)

Be a man

Alright, for all you guys out there. It’s important to man up and ask a girl out if you really want a date for Valentine’s Day. Things aren’t just going to magically happen on their own so set aside your fears, hold your breathe, and approach that girl you’ve been eying for the past 3 years.

In the same way, Internet marketing takes a lot of effort and initiative. You can’t just expect to build a site and have millions of visitors the next day. It takes a lot of courage to start something new and give it your all not knowing whether or not you will succeed or fail. Without that first step, nothing will happen so be a man and get started!

Spend some money, you cheapo

It’s true that money can’t buy love. But a little money goes a long way in SHOWING your love. You might not be able to buy a girl’s affection but you can more easily show you care by spending money on a romantic dinner or small gift.

In Internet marketing, there are so many cheapos out there who want to make millions but pay and give up nothing to get it. Every online venture requires a level of risk but money definitely helps to accelerate the growth of a business. By saying that you are unwilling to spend a dime on promotion you are telling everyone that you are not serious about your business and website. Don’t be a cheapo. Start advertising and invest in new technologies, features, and content for your sites.

Stick to the basics: flowers and candy

Girls have come to expect certain things on Valentine’s Day. Some of these expectations include flowers, candy, cards, and romantic dinners. Of course you might want to be creative at the same time but why abandon what girls want and expect? It might be a good idea to stick with what works.

There are certain Internet marketing tactics that are proven and have stood the test of time. By providing value to your readers and customers, your website will gain popularity and continue to grow. Know your audience, know what they want, and give them what they need. Everything will come together if you do this.

Be romantic - atmosphere is everything

Are you considering taking your Valentine to Burger King for a dinner date? Go through with that and I guarantee that you will not have another date for a very long time. If you want a girl to like you and appreciate you, you need to set the right mood and atmosphere. I don’t think a fast food joint does that too well.

In the same way, Internet marketing is mostly about portraying the right image. If people like you and trust you, you are more likely to attract new visitors and develop a loyal fan base.

Be engaging

Alright so you got that date that you’ve always wanted. Is that it? No, absolutely not. You now have to engage your date and make sure that you are both having a good time. Tell stories and jokes, do a little flirting, and laugh a lot. By engaging in effective conversation, you will better be able to connect with your date and enjoy yourself at the same time.

As an Internet marketer, your job is to not only attract visitors but to keep them on your site to deliver your message. Your content and your product are a big part of this so be sure that you have something valuable to offer. Engage your visitors with something interesting.

Go in for the kiss

You both had a good time, the date is over, and you’re now walking your date home. What do you do? At this point, it’s time to go in for the kiss (or whatever) and/or to get your date’s number for future meetings. This could be a start of a beautiful relationship, but it’s important to ask and make things clear.

Website visitors need clear direction in what they are supposed to do on a website. Be sure to give them clear calls to action, whether it be for sales, subscriptions, or interaction. A little nudge can make all of the difference in increasing conversions.

So there you go. Next year you’ll be an Internet marketing pro with girls begging to be your Valentine’s Day date. What do you think of these parallels? Realistic? Ladies, can you relate?

  2. I was surprised you even tried to compare valentines date to affiliate marketing but hey what can I say - you pulled it off. Made me chuckle at least.

Haha, thanks. I guess it’s a bit of a stretch but I couldn’t resist. Hope you had a nice time.

You pulled of a quality V-day article… mad props ;)

    Oh great. I’m screwed.

I hate Valentine’s Day…or as I usually refer to it, VD.

So, uh, happy VD to you all.

Yeah, I really hate this day. Good post, though.

LOL, Wess. It’s alright. It’s really just another holiday for companies to profit from. I’m glad you enjoyed the article though.

Great timely analogy in connection with Valentine’s Day!

That deserves a Darth Vader “Impressive.”

Thanks Jeff. May the force be with you.

I made a similar list myself.. whew.. belated happy valentines day!

    Hey ChiQ,
Thanks for visiting. I just read your article and you bring up some good ideas. Link love… Haha, the nerd’s perfect Vday.

I see another similarity. There are so many people nowadays that feel ‘entitled’. They feel that if they put up a website that they feel is good that it should make them rich. They feel also that they are the man and women should fall in love with them because of how they perceive themselves.

Oh nice, that’s a good one. I’ll remember that one for next time. Thanks Ty!

    Nice comparison…

Thanks Ruchir. Can you relate at all?

Perfect comparison! Nice posting to celebrate the Valentine days:)…Happy belated VD you all.

Thanks Irish. Happy Vday to you too.
