Internet Marketing Top Blogs - Where Do You Rank?

November 11, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park

Yesterday, you may have heard the buzz around the launch of Internet Marketing Top Blogs, the ultimate ranked list of the best Internet marketing blogs in the industry. The list uses a combination of 10 quality metrics that are weighted according to their importance and then combined in a way to give each blog a relative score in points (out of 1,000). IM Top Blogs uses data from Feedburner, Alexa, Compete, Technorati, Google PR, Yahoo links, StumbleUpon, delicious, outgoing links, and user votes to accurately rank each blog on the list.

I know that there are a few similar lists out there, namely the Make Money Online list from Digital Product Reporter and the Power150 from Advertising Age. Although these are fine lists, I’ve always been frustrated by that fact there isn’t a central resource that includes ALL Internet marketing blogs and takes into account a variety of different factors - not just Google PR, Alexa, and Technorati.

IM Top Blogs is my solution to that problem and I hope that you find it immensely useful in finding new blogs, monitoring the industry, and networking with the top players in the field. The goal of the list is to include and rank every blog under the Internet marketing umbrella - including categories like affiliate marketing, blogging, copywriting, Internet marketing, link building, make money online, SEO / SEM, and social media. If you see that I missed a noteworthy blog on the list (including your own), let me know and I’ll put it in.

I’m always working to improve the tool and tweak and algorithm so if you have any suggestions or feedback, simply contact me to let me know.

Winning the Web is currently ranked at #62. Where do you rank?

Hey G

Thanks for bringing me on board. I’m ranked at #114 now. I should say this list is better than 45n5 but it’s harder to reach the top 100. You know what…I was planning to do one myself but you are one step ahead of me..;)

Yan

Thanks Yan! This list is a lot more comprehensive including a lot of different types of Internet marketing so it’s going to be more competitive. #114 is awesome! Good luck with your blog. :)

nice it looks great maybe font a little bigger but great! also sort by category and atuo adjust rating? instead of overall? but great!

Gyutae Park on November 13th, 2008 5:40 pm

Thanks for the feedback Ian. I’m doing everything I can to improve the list and make it a useful resource for the Internet marketing community.

I tried making the font bigger, but it kind of throws off the whole formatting of the list. There’s a lot of data on there!

I could implement a sorting by category, but I thought it’d be easier if I just did a dropdown for each category. Unfortunately, auto adjusting of the ratings isn’t possible in the system I’m using now.

Hey Gyuate, thanks for including my blog in the list. Looks like I’m at 164 right now, better start working on improving that.

Gyutae Park on November 13th, 2008 5:58 pm

No problem, Rajaie. Your blog deserves it. Still a ways to move up though. Get on it. :P

Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to come out with the definitive list, I read a mention about it on Zac Johnson’s site as well.

Gyutae Park on November 13th, 2008 5:59 pm

Yep, hopefully it’s a useful resource for the Internet marketing community to refer to.

Gyutae I think you have created an absolutely phenomenal resource in your Internet Marketing Top Blogs list, and also what I see as an amazing marketing tool for yourself and Winning The Web! ;) I’ve had a good look and am sure that the page will be become a regularly visited resource by myself and many, many others from now on. Many congratulations in advance for the continued buzz and positive momentum I think this will definitely create. :)

Gyutae Park on November 13th, 2008 6:03 pm

Thanks for the encouragement Stuart. I most definitely hope that it’s a useful resource. The buzz for Winning the Web doesn’t hurt either. :P

What a brilliant list you have compiled here.

Our blog (ineedhits) debuted at #37 - we will have to get started now on trying to make the top 10.

Gyutae Park on November 13th, 2008 6:03 pm

#37 is actually a very good score. Winning the Web is ranked only at 68. :( Good luck!

This is a great one GP and thanks for answering my email, my blog is now included in this list…

The only thing I’d suggest you add would be the Google SERPS placement for the site in question for the category keyword. For example, where does “Blog A” show up in search results for “Make Money Online”.

Gyutae Park on November 17th, 2008 11:57 am

Hm that’s interesting.. The only problem is that rankings are less reliable than the other metrics. For example, just because a site is in the “make money online” category doesn’t necessarily mean that they are optimizing for that term. In theory, metrics like Google PR and Yahoo links already suggest the SEO value of a site so recording actual rankings is a bit overkill for this list. Thanks for the idea though.

Thanks for this list. Interesting that you’ve integrated many different ranking resources. That’s a lot more comprehensive approach than relying on just one resource.

Gyutae,

thanks for a great resource, I am new to this game and I am really enjoying it, it is great free therapy as well.

I will be using it often to gain a valuable insight into the best blogs in the niche and improve my new blog and aim to get on the list to start with and then creep up it quietly and then pounce. So watch out! he he.

Paul

Gyutae Park on November 20th, 2008 8:58 am

Hey Paul,
Glad to see that you like the list and find it helpful. I’m looking forward to seeing Blog for Success grow, but you can’t announce your attack already.. So much for “creeping up quietly”. :P

I really like that stats list. Just wondering if you are going to do other categories as well. I do blog about internet marketing sometimes but my blog is not only about that. So would be nice if i could ad it somewhere.

Also, I dont use my rss feed on my site, maybe you should try to incorporate traffic by means of that badge. You can measure the traffic each blog gets and i guess it might even be more accurate than Alexa.

Gyutae Park on November 20th, 2008 8:56 am

Fromtheold,
I’m open to suggestions for other categories, but I think what I have is pretty comprehensive of the Internet marketing umbrella. Do you think I missed out on any?

As for traffic from the badge, I think that’s hard to implement because not all sites want to put it up. Plus it’s more susceptible to gaming. Tools like Alexa and Compete are more reliable measures of traffic.

Fromtheold on November 20th, 2008 9:50 am Subscribed to comments via email

No i dont think you missed out on any, you have the internet marketing niche pretty much covered. I just think it would be great if you could make more categories. Although I do know that this blog is about internet marketing only so i might be missing the point :)

As for the badge I am not really a coding person so have no idea what i was talking about. Made sense at the moment. Lol.

Cool! I can’t believe Entrepreneur’s Journey ranks so high! In terms of comment activity, there really isn’t too much going on there compared to a lot of other blogs. They must have nailed SEO.
