Gyutae Wins Again – Tyler Cruz Prepares For Humiliation After Affiliate Marketing Showdown

September 14, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park

Well, it’s official folks. After edging out Tyler Cruz as the underdog in our previous blog competition, I managed to do it yet again in the most recent affiliate marketing showdown. For those of you that haven’t been following the event, Tyler and I started a little contest to see who could make the most money doing PPC affiliate marketing in a month. We’re both fairly inexperienced in this area and the purpose of the challenge was to motivate us to increase affiliate income. We started off very slowly, but in the end I managed to get lucky and make my campaigns profitable in the final week. It’s not much, but it’s still a good start and enough to beat out Tyler (who happens to be in the red).

Here are my final stats for the competition.

As you can see from my stats, I didn’t really get my campaigns going until the last week of the competition. I ran into some issues with my landing page domain getting slapped in Adwords and basically had to do everything from scratch. By the end, I spent $540.88 to make $735. Not bad for a start.

As for my campaigns, I was pretty lucky to have found a few keywords that converted and a landing page that worked well for the offer. I’ll be doing a post soon to go over my entire PPC affiliate marketing process and possibly go into details about my offer/landing pages/PPC campaigns. By no means am I a super affiliate or an expert, but it’ll be a great resource and case study for those just getting started. There really aren’t many useful how-to articles with specific details and examples for newbie affiliate marketers because most people want to safeguard their earnings and keep everything a secret.

However, I’m not sure that I’d want to focus my attention on PPC affiliate marketing in the long term so I’d be willing to give it all away to you guys to play around with. Sure, there is a ton of potential for making money with PPC affiliate marketing but so much of the business model relies on outside factors like Google, competitiors, and merchants and honestly I’d rather build a sustainable business with a solid foundation. That’s just my business philosophy.

Anyway, now that I’ve won this competition, Tyler is going to hold his end of the bargain and put up a humiliation video reciting a script that I write out. Any suggestions? Leave a comment on this post with a line or two you’d like Tyler to say and I’ll try and include it in the script! Get in your suggestions by 11 pm ET tonight (Sept 14) if you want to be included.

It’s going to be good!

congrats man. have him recite something like “Guys, just wanted to let you know about a man I truly look up to whether it is blogging, seo, affiliate marketing or life in general. Guyatae Park is the man I aspire to be one day. If there was only one piece of marketing advice I was allowed to share, it would be to follow Guyatae at Sign up to his newsletter, subscribe to his blog, listen to anything and everything he says. You won’t regret it.”

Thanks Jason. I’ll probably include something like that, but I’m looking for more juicy stuff as well. It doesn’t even have to be promotional. Anything else you’d like to hear come out of Tyler’s mouth?

Well I take my hat off to you guys for at least trying the PPC marketing world.

Haha yeah we tried but we definitely could have done a lot better if we invested more time, money, and resources. There are a ton of ways to make money online and honestly I’d like to focus on building quality sites rather than spending too much time on PPC affiliate marketing.

I have one question? If you guys can only make $300 to $400 dollars with PPC what can I expect to make as a novice? Could someone make $2500 per month? and if so what would you have to do?

Gyutae Park on September 17th, 2008

Hey Steve, thanks for stopping by. We made “only” 300-400 but you could definitely earn more, even as a novice. We’re not really PPC affiliate marketers nor do we have much experience in it so all of this was relatively new to us as well. If you put in the time to research and test and invest a good amount of money (at least $1,000) you can achieve $2,500 per month with luck and hard work. There are affiliates out there making tens of thousands of dollars each month. I’ll be writing an affiliate marketing guide for beginners soon so be on the look out for that to get you started.
