Download Firefox 3 – Be a Part of History & Set a New World Record

June 17, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park

What is your web browser of choice? Today, Mozilla is releasing the much anticipated next version of it’s popular Firefox application. There’s a ton of fanfare to support the release and Mozilla is even trying to set a new world record for the most downloads in 24 hours.

At the time of this writing, there are over 1,700,000 pledges to download the software all around the world. In order set the new Guinness World Record, they’ll need at least 3 million downloads by the end of the day.

This is your chance to be a part of history and to download a great piece of software in the process. Firefox only has about 16% in browser market share compared to Internet Explorer’s 79%, but it is quickly building up steam especially amongst tech savvy users.

A poll conducted by Daniel Scocco of Daily Blog Tips revealed that despite the overall market share numbers, 74% of bloggers prefer Firefox over all other browsers. With this next release being faster, more secure, and better overall than the competition, that number will only increase.

Hehehe, it seems that every single firefox website is down! The sudden rush of traffic must have killed the severs

Gyutae Park on June 18th, 2008

I’m a new firefox user. Too bad I can’t get the site for download due to heavy traffic. But using the older version is enough for me. It is faster and smarter than my previous browser.

Gyutae Park on June 18th, 2008

Nah, you gotta get the new version. Firefox 3 is incredibly fast and I’m loving it so far.

That is amazing 1,700,000 downloads in one day! Has to be a world record.

I got mine and so far like it overall. I was hoping, with it being kind of a high profile release, that more addon publishers would have their addons updated but so far only a few were. That is always the frustration with updating…having to wait week, or even longer, for some of the addons that you use every day to get updated.

But better than the alternative regardless ;)

They would have got more probably if their server did not go down for a while.

I love it.

The smart address bar put me off a bit at first – as I had single letters set up as shortcuts to some of my bookmarks – and this changed its behaviour a bit – but I have got used to it now and it really is a useful feature (as is the improved history)..
