BloggersBase Review – A Different Kind of Social Media Site
January 27, 2009 - Written by Gyutae Park
Millions of new blog posts spring up each and every day around the web. There’s just so much information out there and it’d literally take someone a lifetime to consume a week’s worth of all of the new blog posts on the Internet. So how do you keep up?
Social media is effective because it acts as a filter. The community decides what’s important and what’s not and makes it easy for people to focus on relevant items. Social news sites like Digg, Reddit, Delicious, and StumbleUpon play a huge role in how people consume information in this new web 2.0 (3.0?) age and if you own your own site or online business, getting on these sites can send huge amounts of traffic.

How to Ignite Viral Marketing Campaigns For Your Site
December 8, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
I’m helping to promote the search marketing company I work for at SES Chicago this week and today I had the chance to attend a session called “Igniting Viral Campaigns”. The topic is especially interesting to me because I frequently brainstorm new creative projects that I can promote using social media. Not only is viral marketing usually more cost-efficient (compared to throwing money at advertising), but it has the potential to bring in a huge influx of links and exposure that does wonders if you’re building a brand.

StumbleUpon is My Biggest Traffic Source, Without Even Trying
August 12, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
If you have a site or blog that you’ve been trying to promote for a long time, you might be familiar with all of the different types of traffic sources – Google SEO, buying links, article marketing, blog comments, guest posts, etc.
All of these methods of generating traffic are great as they form a solid foundation for your blog and help you to establish a steady flow of visitors. However, you may be missing out on a HUGE opportunity to explode your traffic. This is essentially what happened to me with Winning the Web, until I recently dug into my analytics. Let me show you what I found.

15 Opinions on a Google-Digg Deal – From Sphinn’s Finest SEOs & SMOs
July 27, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
Alright, alright… so the Google-Digg deal that I predicted last week has been broken up and it looks like I need to work on my psychic powers. But that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to speculate and wonder what will happen next in the search and social media industries.
I asked for opinions from some of the most active SEO’s and SMO’s on Sphinn, a perfect intersection between search and social media. Will Google acquire Digg? Do you think it would be beneficial or disastrous? How would it affect the Internet at large?

The Google-Digg Prophecy – 5 Ways a Deal will Change the Internet
July 24, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
Could this be it? If you’re on top of the tech news, you know that Digg has been on sale for over 6 months now – actively looking for buyers to take on the social media monster.
In the latest round of rumors, Google is set to buy up Digg for $200 million. Will it actually happen this time? I’m no Nostradamus, but I vote yes.
Before the summer months are up, Google will have bought up Digg and added it to its online empire of web properties.

How to Establish a Stronghold on Your Personal Brand Using Profile Names
July 8, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
Having a foreign and uncommon name in the United States is both a curse and a blessing. On one hand, no one can spell or pronounce your name correctly. My Korean name is all I have and I’ve gotten all kinds of wacky pronunciations from Goo-ta to Gay-tay. It’s actually pronounced Gyoo-teh and spelled Gyutae, so get it right people! On the other hand, the good thing about a unique name is that you never run into trouble attaining account profiles around the web. In fact, I’ve been able to use my first name “gyutae” for everything I sign up for – Google, Yahoo, domain name, Twitter, Skype – you name it. If you do a search for my name in Google, you can see that I pretty much dominate the first 10 pages in the search results. Now if only “gyutae” was a highly searched keyword…

March 22, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
So I was going about my business today when I received an email from Sphinn editor Rob Kerry of Gate2Media aka evilgreenmonkey, who was tipped by Sphinn guardian SlightlyShadySEO. The message went as follows:
Hi Gyutae,
I have been informed of the following blog post, which demands readers to Sphinn the page in order to win a prize: http://www.winningtheweb.com/contest-clue-2-sphinn.php
As a result, the Sphinn submission at http://sphinn.com/story/33711 has been removed.
Any further attempts to to game the voting process on Sphinn will result in your account and website being banned.

How to Spin a Story to the Top of Sphinn
December 11, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park
A couple weeks back, I had an article from Winning the Web (6 Things You Don’t Know (but think you know) about SEO) become a “Hot Topic” on Sphinn. If you’re not familiar with Sphinn, it’s basically a social media site for Internet marketing and search related topics. Much like Digg, you vote for articles and discussions around the web, and as they become popular with a certain number of votes, they become hot – thus receiving front page exposure.
