The Secret to Making Every Link Count For Your SEO Rankings
December 14, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
Link building is an ongoing struggle between two sides with different motivations. Webmasters obviously want to increase traffic and rank #1 in the search engines for their targeted keywords. Search engines on the other hand aim to neutralize webmasters’ link building efforts and return the most relevant search results pages. So as a link builder, how can you win the battle?
With Google’s emphasis on links in its ranking algorithm, links have essentially become the currency of the net. People are willing to shell out thousands of dollars for links in hopes of better rankings and higher traffic. However, Google is fighting back by weeding out “artificial” links and devaluing sites that engage in aggressive link building tactics.

inLinks Review – An Arrow to Google’s Achilles’ Heel?
December 1, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
Everyone knows that paid links expose a gaping hole in Google’s search algorithm. Many marketers have been able to take advantage of this weakness by buying up paid links and artificially increasing their rankings in the search engines. Google has since declared war on paid links and has been actively working to eliminate link brokers and severely devalue sites that sell links.
MediaWhiz, the company behind Text Link Ads, has launched another link product named . Unlike Text Link Ads, which places lists of paid links in sidebar widgets, inLinks automatically converts keywords held within content to links. Not only are these links harder to detect, but they also pass on more value because they are held in the actual content of the page. Location does matter.

October 27, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
In every SEO campaign, it’s crucial to record important site metrics and then to optimize and improve upon your sites based on those metrics. What am I talking about? Current and historical search rankings for your targeted keywords, Page Rank, top referring links, social media votes, keyword density, and indexed pages. If you’re not monitoring these elements on a regular basis, you’re probably missing out on a lot of your site’s search traffic and SEO potential.

What Does Sphinn Think About SEO Tools & Software?
October 3, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
Yesterday I wrote a post about what SEO software means for the SEO community and it was received with mixed feelings, especially from the folks over at Sphinn. In my opinion, good (and I emphasize good here) SEO software (like Ranksense) helps to automate repetitive tasks and is beneficial for the community in spreading SEO awareness and teaching best practices.
Here’s what some of the top SEO’s and members of Sphinn have to say about SEO tools and software…

What SEO Software Means For the SEO Community
October 2, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
A couple days ago, I reviewed Ranksense, a “point and click” suite of SEO tools that guide you through the best practices of an entire SEO campaign. The software was created by SEO superstar Hamlet Batista and actually has a lot of potential to be extremely effective in increasing your rankings and traffic. Read my full Ranksense review.
Now, many of you know that I work full-time as an SEO consultant so you may be shocked that I’m promoting a solution that supposedly does my job for you. You would think that I would shun such software and tools and label them rubbish.

Ranksense Review – Point & Click SEO Software
October 1, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
If you own a website or Internet business, you know how important SEO can be especially if you’re on a tight budget. High rankings in Google, Yahoo, and MSN can bring in mind-boggling traffic to your site – all of which is extremely targeted. With that kind of benefit, it’s really no wonder why SEO is a billion dollar industry despite its often tarnished reputation.
Working as an SEO specialist at a top search marketing agency, I know how complicated SEO campaigns can get especially when working with large Fortune 500 companies. It’s a long process that requires a lot of technical know-how and customization. In the end, nothing can take the place of a well-qualified SEO consultant to improve your search traffic.

Cuil, “Most Comprehensive Search Engine” My Ass
July 28, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
By now I’m sure you’ve heard about Cuil, a new search engine startup that many think will be a “Google killer”. The story’s been covered today by pretty much every tech blog or news site out there. Does it live up to the hype? Cuil claims to be the most comprehensive search engine around with over 120 billion indexed pages. In fact, it’s come out of the gate running with Google in its cross hairs but I honestly don’t know what the fuss is about. Sure, Cuil can have a huge index, but that doesn’t mean it’ll have the most relevant results nor take market share away from Google. In the minds of users, “google” is already closely tied with search – almost to the point where the word can officially be added to the dictionary. I don’t care what kind of technology you have. That sort of branding is tough to beat.

14 Steps to Transforming Your Career Path to Super SEO Status
July 7, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
In a previous post, I wrote about the 5 different business models of SEO – in-house SEO, agency SEO, independent SEO consulting, SEO education, and online business. I received a lot of feedback on the topic and the general consensus is that there are many opportunities for cross-over between the models. For example, agency SEO’s have their own online side projects and many in-house SEO’s aspire to be independent consultants or SEO instructors. No matter what situation an SEO favors or is currently in, he or she probably got there by exploring the other options.
