How to Find the Perfect Name for Your Website Business
January 10, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
In Internet business and in search engine optimization, a name is everything and is absolutely crucial for online success. A name is what describes something and tells others what that something is all about. On the Internet, the name of a site or brand is especially relevant because important search engine optimization aspects are involved. For example, the name of the site is what most people use in anchor text when linking to the site. If you have good keywords in your name, your site will rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs) for those keywords because of the increased link popularity.

How to Create a Crazy Contest that Will Explode Your Site
December 26, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park
If you’ve been following Winning the Web the past couple of weeks, you know that I launched a very successful contest that yielded incredible results for this blog. For those of you that don’t know, I bought a $400 John Chow review to promote a contest for a free John Chow review. The contest was unique in that readers had to unscramble a code released one letter at a time only in the RSS feed. Sounds like too much work? I later added another prize for a John Cow review for all the lazy folks who would rather rely on chance. Needless to say, the contest attracted loads of attention and links. In just 2 weeks, Winning the Web gained over 225 subscribers, 400+ comments, and a 500% increase in traffic. Winning the Web attained huge success through this contest and I’m sure all of you are eager to learn how I did it. Well the wait is over. I’m going to lay everything out in this post including how I did it, what I learned, and how you can apply the same methodology to launch your own contest that will skyrocket your blog to new levels.

For Websites, a Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words
December 24, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park
Like the popular saying goes “a picture’s worth a thousand words”, especially on websites and blogs that contain a lot of textual content. Are you utilizing pictures to their maximum potential? Here are the top reasons why you need to include images on your sites.
Pictures draw readers in
Have you ever encountered a site with pages and pages of nothing but plain black text? Nothing turns me off more than a bland site with an overload of text. If you want to draw readers in, you want to have an inviting site design with relevant images and pictures to accompany your text. That way your content will seem less intimidating and will increase the chances that visitors will stay on your site and come back for more.

Speak It Like You Know It - Be an Authority
December 19, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park
If you want to be an authority, you have to speak it like you know it. You can know everything there is to know in your industry, but if you don’t exude confidence, no one is going to trust you or respect you. When explaining concepts or voicing your opinions verbally or in writing, use authoritative language and take a stand. Nothing will destroy an expert’s reputation more than wishy-washy wording and indecisive stances on important issues.
For example, take a look at the 2 paragraphs below and choose who you think you would trust more on the issue of paid links.

Get a Good Deal on the Search Marketing Standard
December 18, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park
I wanted to let all of you know about a great deal on the Search Marketing Standard print magazine. For those of you that aren’t familiar with it, Search Marketing Standard is a quarterly publication with articles, interviews, and tips from industry leaders in the search marketing community.
Of course a print magazine is probably going to take a back seat to blogs and news websites but it can still be a reliable source of information that you can access when you’re not at a computer (God forbid).
