On average, how many pages does each visitor on your site view before going elsewhere? If your answer is a number less than 2, then you either have a horrible site not worth visiting or you’re not fully utilizing the power of the cross-sell. Cross-selling your content on an article-based site or blog will help you generate more pageviews, attain more subscribers, and ultimately develop a more loyal readership.

Why You Should Change Your Blog to Show Excerpts on the Home Page
January 23, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park
If you take a look at the Winning the Web homepage, you’ll notice that it has changed from displaying full posts to now short excerpts - 100 word summaries of each post followed by a “Continue Reading…” link. Why have I done this? I think this change will benefit the blog by increasing pageviews and making it easier for readers to find what they’re looking for. In fact, a poll conducted by Daily Blog Tips shows that 48% of participants believe that post excerpts on the homepage will become the blogging standard in the near future. Below is the breakdown of results.

Warning: You must be 21 or over to participate (But hey, this is the Internet. How are we supposed to know?)
This week’s blog hop: The Blog of Oussama Messaoud
If you’re familiar with bar hopping, otherwise known as pub crawling, you know much fun it can be. You get a big group of people together, visit a bar and have a few drinks, visit another and have some more drinks, and continue to visit more and more bars and have more and more drinks until you’re either passed out on the curb or out somewhere making a fool of yourself. But hey, it’s all in good fun.

Optimal SEO Wordpress Permalink Structure for Your Blog
December 27, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park
If you’re creating a new blog using the Wordpress platform, it’s important to establish a permalink structure that is optimal for search engines and for users. So what is the optimal structure? There are many different views on this topic, but from my experience and SEO knowledge, using /%postname%.html is best. Below are some of the key reasons why you should be using this structure.
- Avoid using dates in your URLs
Many Wordpress blogs default to a structure which includes dates in subfolders. This ties your post to a specific point in time and limits your ability to update old posts. Also, the added subfolders may result in search engines placing less weight on your post and thus reducing the crawl rate.

Tell Your Blogging Story as a Key Selling Point
December 18, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park
Everyone has a unique personal story that includes life experiences they’ve been through, problems that they’ve dealt with, and people that they’ve learned from. It’s no different in the blogging world, yet many bloggers are stoic, lifeless, and flat out boring. I’m surprised personal stories aren’t used more often as a key selling point for bloggers to differentiate themselves from the crowd.
Do you have a blogger story?
Many of the best known bloggers have reached the top by sharing their personalities and personal lives. You may feel uncomfortable revealing your inner thoughts and experiences to a sea of strangers around the world, but if you have an interesting story, you will get noticed.

Get Off the Blogging Bandwagon & Set Yourself Apart
December 13, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park
It is natural for bloggers to follow and be attracted to success. We are drawn to powerful people who have lots of experience, knowledge, and credentials. For example, who’s your favorite basketball player? Michael Jordan or Donny Dweeb? I think the answer is clear.
Following success is fine but if you’re out trying to make a name for yourself, you can’t just be a fan and a follower for life. This is especially true in the blogging world. I see so many people worshiping the top Internet marketing bloggers like Darren Rowse, John Chow, and Shoemoney. These guys are very successful, but they’re just regular people who have worked hard to get to where they are today. You can emulate them and put them on a pedestal all you want but that doesn’t mean you can actually be them and reach the same level of success.
