This week’s blog hop: The Blog of Oussama Messaoud

barhopping.jpgIf you’re familiar with bar hopping, otherwise known as pub crawling, you know much fun it can be. You get a big group of people together, visit a bar and have a few drinks, visit another and have some more drinks, and continue to visit more and more bars and have more and more drinks until you’re either passed out on the curb or out somewhere making a fool of yourself. But hey, it’s all in good fun.

In the same way, I think a similar concept would work well in blogging. I’m going to coin it right now as… blog hopping (has this been used before?) It’ll be a great way for the Winning the Web community to discover new blogs and ideas, network with bloggers, and help one another out.

How it works

Every week, I’m going to update this post with a featured blog from one of our Winning the Web readers. Everyone else is going to hop to the blog, leave some great insightful comments, maybe even give some links, and form bonds of everlasting friendship. Sounds good, eh?

How to get featured

Now this is the beauty of the blog hopping concept. It’s all about being social and giving to each other. Basically, the current week’s featured blog will pick the next week’s featured blog depending on who was most active in commenting or sending links.

To be featured as the weekly blog hop blogger…

  1. Link to this post from your blog.
    The goal here is to increase exposure for our featured blogs in the blog hopping events. The more links, the more value for all.
  2. Leave a comment to this post with your blog’s URL.
  3. Visit featured blogs each week, be active, leave comments, and link when appropriate.
  4. Hope the featured blogger picks you for the next blog hop!

Good luck and happy blog hopping!

  2. Happy Saturday,

    What a cool concept–and no one has to be the designated driver, either!!!

    Seriously, this sounds like a ton of fun, not to mention a neat way to help each other out.

    My blog is SiteFriends.com

    If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.

    Cheers,
    brian

    good idea. im all for fun. good way to make site active with user created content. ties in with your recent post. good work my korean seoul brotha

    Hello :)

    Sounds like a great idea. So when does the hopping begin?

    @jblu
    The blog hop locations change every Saturday and will begin this upcoming Saturday 12/1. If you plan on participating, make sure you get your entries in beforehand!

    @bloggernoob
    Thanks for the comment. Are you Korean as well?

    Alright, the ‘child of the devil’ is up for it. ;) my blog’s URL is: freshgeeks.com

    The idea has something to it, but at one blog per week, what is my chance to ever get to that point? So that carrot does not seem very juicy. I will hang in for a while and see who I meet, as I like to read blogs and this way I do not need to look for a blog to read.

    I’m always up for a little socializing.

    Thanks to everyone who has participated so far. This week’s blog hop is going to go to Fresh Geeks. Make sure you visit the blog, read the posts, and leave some comments. jblu is going to pick next week’s blog hop so you definitely want to make a good impression.

    Yup Yup, I’m ready for this. Lets get hopping.

    You can find my post at mikefolan.com

    Talk to you all later.

    Mike

    Looks like a great concept. Except for the drinking :)

    Do I look over 21 to you? :D

    Took a look at FreshGeeks, latest post was pretty cool :)

    @mike
    Good to have you participating in this!

    @ninja.s
    Yep, unfortunately drinks aren’t provided here.

    @The University Kid
    21? Your name kind of gives it away… Don’t make me call the Internet cops on you now. Haha :P

    Hi Gyutae,
    Thanks for picking my blog for the blog hop :)

    Hi Gyutae. I think this is a great idea and I am sphinning it. If we’re a flop, oh well…no guts no glory ey? Good luck!

    I

    @jblu
    No problem. You were the clear winner.

    @SpostareDuro
    Thanks for the sphinn. No guts, no glory is right. Hooha Hooha!

    How about 3 blogs a week. That would make it more interesting, but there will come a point of saturation where people just throw their links up and never reciprocate. Also for the people who are pretty busy, after a while if people have crappy blogs then we might not want to keep trying them out. You’ll have to start up a whole category thing, and then people will put in their preferences and - hey, this is starting to sound like StumbleUpon. lol

    @Michael Lodispoto
    Haha, you bring up some good points. I was actually thinking about putting up 3 blogs per week instead of 1. But I could see it just turning into a link farm sort of thing rather than people actually blog hopping and networking. That just defeats the whole purpose. StumbleUpon is a great way to get traffic to your sites, but I really won’t be able to replicate anything like that here.

    I am a Winning the Web winner!

    Do I win now???
    :?

    Great promotional idea you popped out :)

    -Mike

    I love blogging, I love bar hopping, put the two together and you get a great idea.

    *** Side note: The letter was not added to this posts RSS feed. ***

    @Timothy Haroutunian
    I won’t be adding letters to the John Chow review contest code on the weekends. You’ll see the next one on Monday. ;)

    I must say, I’m pretty impressed with your unique ideas all around. Your content is very fresh. You won me over as a regular reader :-)

    Great idea/concept. Will be really cool if it works well and continues. Although I do take part in various post on various blogs I am, by nature, a lurker. So will need to come out of my box to make some actual post ;).

    Blog Hopping, that’s a great idea! I’ve actually been doing a lot of blog hopping myself lately! Lol… I’ll have to link this on my site so that maybe you’ll hop my way lol :)

    Good idea. It somewhat resembles the link trains that you can see popping around everywhere these days - but with a twist :)

    i posted a blog about blog hopping, the addy is http://www.brannray.com

    Yes.. I love your post..
    Maybe I will be weekly blog hop blogger… at your blog…
    Ha ha ha. But Kind of shy..

    good idea…you’ll be the next johnchow…anyway, what can I call you, Gyutae Park, Gyutae, or Park?

    @Millionaire’s Trend
    Hm, you can call me Gyutae or Gyutae Park. Park by itself is way too generic.

    ok, I’ll call you Gyutae…nice to know you..good luck…

    What a great concept. Seems similar to something John Chow did back in the day. A nice way to find other great blogs as well.

    Well its a great idea, but the problem is, will there be any readers who really wants to visit other blogs from the comments?

    The chances are very low…

    Ashruffz, i do all the time …. it`s a great source of traffic for me too.

    This is a great promotional idea. You are proving to really be a genius at promotion and gaining traffic/subscribers. Well you’ve gained my subscription, and you better believe I’ll be copying a lot of your ideas!

    Just wrote a review on my blog: http://www.learnhow2earn.com. Nice idea!

    Gyutae,

    I think Blog Hopping is an excellent idea! I have written about blog hopping on my blog, Pajama Professional, and will continue to follow the progress of your new endeavor.
