Let’s Go Blog Hopping! (Must be 21 or Over)

January 6, 2008 - Written by Gyutae Park

Warning: You must be 21 or over to participate (But hey, this is the Internet. How are we supposed to know?)

This week’s blog hop: The Blog of Oussama Messaoud

barhopping.jpgIf you’re familiar with bar hopping, otherwise known as pub crawling, you know much fun it can be. You get a big group of people together, visit a bar and have a few drinks, visit another and have some more drinks, and continue to visit more and more bars and have more and more drinks until you’re either passed out on the curb or out somewhere making a fool of yourself. But hey, it’s all in good fun.

In the same way, I think a similar concept would work well in blogging. I’m going to coin it right now as… blog hopping (has this been used before?) It’ll be a great way for the Winning the Web community to discover new blogs and ideas, network with bloggers, and help one another out.

How it works

Every week, I’m going to update this post with a featured blog from one of our Winning the Web readers. Everyone else is going to hop to the blog, leave some great insightful comments, maybe even give some links, and form bonds of everlasting friendship. Sounds good, eh?

How to get featured

Now this is the beauty of the blog hopping concept. It’s all about being social and giving to each other. Basically, the current week’s featured blog will pick the next week’s featured blog depending on who was most active in commenting or sending links.

To be featured as the weekly blog hop blogger…

  1. Link to this post from your blog.
    The goal here is to increase exposure for our featured blogs in the blog hopping events. The more links, the more value for all.
  2. Leave a comment to this post with your blog’s URL.
  3. Visit featured blogs each week, be active, leave comments, and link when appropriate.
  4. Hope the featured blogger picks you for the next blog hop!

Good luck and happy blog hopping!

Happy Saturday,

What a cool concept–and no one has to be the designated driver, either!!!

Seriously, this sounds like a ton of fun, not to mention a neat way to help each other out.

My blog is SiteFriends.com

If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.

Cheers,
brian

jblu on November 27th, 2007

Hello :)

Sounds like a great idea. So when does the hopping begin?

Gyutae Park on November 27th, 2007

@jblu
The blog hop locations change every Saturday and will begin this upcoming Saturday 12/1. If you plan on participating, make sure you get your entries in beforehand!

Gyutae Park on November 27th, 2007

@bloggernoob
Thanks for the comment. Are you Korean as well?

jblu on November 30th, 2007

Alright, the ‘child of the devil’ is up for it. ;) my blog’s URL is: freshgeeks.com

eurica on December 1st, 2007

The idea has something to it, but at one blog per week, what is my chance to ever get to that point? So that carrot does not seem very juicy. I will hang in for a while and see who I meet, as I like to read blogs and this way I do not need to look for a blog to read.

Jeff on December 2nd, 2007

I’m always up for a little socializing.

Thanks for the sphinn. No guts, no glory is right. Hooha Hooha!

How about 3 blogs a week. That would make it more interesting, but there will come a point of saturation where people just throw their links up and never reciprocate. Also for the people who are pretty busy, after a while if people have crappy blogs then we might not want to keep trying them out. You’ll have to start up a whole category thing, and then people will put in their preferences and – hey, this is starting to sound like StumbleUpon. lol

Gyutae Park on December 3rd, 2007

@Michael Lodispoto
Haha, you bring up some good points. I was actually thinking about putting up 3 blogs per week instead of 1. But I could see it just turning into a link farm sort of thing rather than people actually blog hopping and networking. That just defeats the whole purpose. StumbleUpon is a great way to get traffic to your sites, but I really won’t be able to replicate anything like that here.

@Timothy Haroutunian
I won’t be adding letters to the John Chow review contest code on the weekends. You’ll see the next one on Monday. ;)

Great idea/concept. Will be really cool if it works well and continues. Although I do take part in various post on various blogs I am, by nature, a lurker. So will need to come out of my box to make some actual post ;) .

Brandie (BrannRay) on December 9th, 2007

Blog Hopping, that’s a great idea! I’ve actually been doing a lot of blog hopping myself lately! Lol… I’ll have to link this on my site so that maybe you’ll hop my way lol :)

hts on December 9th, 2007

Good idea. It somewhat resembles the link trains that you can see popping around everywhere these days – but with a twist :)

Brandie (BrannRay) on December 9th, 2007

good idea…you’ll be the next johnchow…anyway, what can I call you, Gyutae Park, Gyutae, or Park?

Gyutae Park on December 9th, 2007

@Millionaire’s Trend
Hm, you can call me Gyutae or Gyutae Park. Park by itself is way too generic.

ok, I’ll call you Gyutae…nice to know you..good luck…

Fiscal Musings on December 9th, 2007

What a great concept. Seems similar to something John Chow did back in the day. A nice way to find other great blogs as well.

Ashruffz on December 9th, 2007

Well its a great idea, but the problem is, will there be any readers who really wants to visit other blogs from the comments?

The chances are very low…

Neil Duckett on December 10th, 2007

Ashruffz, i do all the time …. it`s a great source of traffic for me too.
