In advertising your Internet business, it’s essential to be at the right place at the right time. If you want to get noticed on a mass scale, you have to first be noticed by the right people using proper timing. It’s not always about luck and a winning strategy should be implemented to increase chances that people will pay attention to your business, website, or blog.

Pick the right places to advertise on
Where can you place yourself to receive the most exposure and potentially gain the biggest wins? It’s important to focus on the most profitable platforms to promote yourself. As I mentioned in a previous post, only 20% of your advertising or marketing efforts lead to 80% of your resulting visibility. Don’t you think it’s important to pick wisely to drive results and save time? For example, to promote Winning the Web, I only guest blog for sites that already have a largely established readership such as Shoemoney and TylerCruz.com. By using this tactic, I am able to efficiently tap into new audiences and attract new visitors.

When promoting your site, leverage the power of high-profile sites
Don’t waste time advertising on multiple small blogs and sites when you can more effectively do the same on a super popular site in a fraction of the time. It may require a bigger initial investment but it is definitely worth it in the long run. For instance, Winning the Web was recently reviewed by John Chow and has seen exceptional results. Traffic has exploded, the number of blog subscribers has gone through the roof, and brand awareness is the best it’s ever been. These improvements probably would not have been realized if I targeted a lesser known (but more affordable) site. In fact, once some of the smaller sites heard about the John Chow review, they blogged about my site anyway (and for free). When advertising for exposure, high-profile is clearly the best bang for your buck.

Also, you want to advertise in as many high-profile places as possible. It usually takes users up to 3 or 4 times to see something before they react. By having exposure on multiple sites with high visibility, you are more likely to attain your desired results.

Find the right timing for your ads
When advertising your sites, you want to time your actions appropriately to receive the most benefit for your efforts. I’ve found that bombarding promotions all at once on multiple sites yields the best results. While seeing the high frequency of your promotional activities, people are intrigued and are more likely to take notice. If you spread out your campaigns, you will have steady but much smaller amounts of exposure for a longer period of time. However, conversion rates in this case are lower.

Furthermore, you want to launch and run your advertising or marketing campaign during the most high traffic periods of the week for your industry. It really depends on your target market, but in general Weekends are very slow in terms of traffic and Internet usage so you might want to avoid them altogether.

Lastly, take advantage of seasonal trends and current news
For example, since the holiday season is coming up, it may be effective to use some sort of Christmas theme for your campaigns. Being relevant to seasonal trends can usually give you a big boost. Also, stay on top of current news and use it to your advantage. Is Britney Spears the hot topic for today (again)? Then use a marketing campaign that somehow incorporates Britney Spears. I know it can be a stretch, but if you do it effectively you can reach a much wider audience with different interests.

Are you positioning your marketing and advertising campaigns to be at the right place at the right time?

You really have your points there. Until svensworld.de grows bigger I do not even think about advertising it for money, the idea behind a blog is to push it by yourself and there are plenty of ways to do so.
Your contests and free reviews are a great way. Combined with the great offerings you give, reviewme for free at chow and cow, but linkback at zillions of blogs, this probably pays off very fast, the only questions is, can you keep up with the readers and keep on producing quality content, or do you have that content before you lit the fuze? It’s not only the timing to pick the right spots at the same time, it’s rather to pick the right spot to start off.

As you wrote in a post before, content is king, but you have no kingdom, ain’t it the other way around?
You are the king and the people come to it to see your land (blog / content), if you misgovernment your country with poor content, you will have no peasant / landlords who care about you and who will migrate somewhere else. Then you will end up as a poor king without a land, poor because your fired your resources before you had something to give.

You have to built a good blog first, then you can start your marketing campain.
A lot people will take this post the wrong way and try to start of with a big bang, but they forget there has to be some fireworks at the end of the year, not just a big KABOOOM and everything is blown away.
People like fireworks, they hate explosions.

Good article though, keep it up! :)

I’ve been looking at a variety of sites to advertise on. John Chow seems to be the best bet. Even though he is more expensive, if you compare the amount of visitors and subscribers to other sites..you’re getting your money worth. I’m trying to contact him directly to avoid the ReviewMe fees. No reply yet though. His blog seems to be the best bet in trying to make sure the blogging community is aware you’re there. After that, I’ll be targeting my own niche.

You’re right though, it’s best to advertise all at once. Get that exposure and hype going, while also creating an active readership who will keep discussions lively when commenting.

Nice article Gyutae. Knowing when to advertise is as important as knowing what to advertise. In addition to guest blogging, “where” to advertise is very important. Don’t go advertising your blog on completely irrelevant blogs just because it saves you a few bucks. If you do that, you won’t get nearly as much bang for your money.
