Here in Chicago, it’s Restaurant Week. Over 130 eateries set up 3-course prixe-fixe menus for lunch and dinner and you can sample a variety of the best foods for affordable prices. This of course got me thinking about Internet marketing (ok, maybe I’m a little obsessed) and the parallels between eating and generating traffic. Like food, the quality of traffic matters. Sure you can go to a cheap buffet and eat anything and everything, but at the end of the day you won’t be satisfied. In the same way, you can get any old traffic to your site but it probably won’t convert to make you money.

You’ve heard the saying that money doesn’t grow on trees. But what if it did? What would you say if I told you that you could raise a tree that grew cash money instead of leaves? Of course I don’t mean this in the literal sense, but growing a tree is a lot like starting a successful Internet business that when done right can create a huge flow of cash. What do I mean?

Affiliate marketing competitions seem to be all the rage these days and why not? Everyone involved wins out in some way. Affiliate networks gain a lot of exposure and new affiliates, merchants get their offers promoted by the best in the business, and affiliates sharpen their skills to compete, learn new tactics, and win some awesome prizes on top of commissions.

As a blogger, the first thing you may ask when deciding to make money on your blog via affiliate marketing is, “what do I promote?” You may start with related products, services, and offers but forget about the goldmine right under your nose. Your WordPress blog theme!
Every blog has a theme or design and whether you like it or not, you’re promoting the one on your site right now regardless of what niche you’re in. So why not cash in on it? The WordPress blog theme market is huge right now and there’s a ton of money to be made – especially because everyone and their moms now have blogs.

A domain name is literally the face of every website. It represents your brand and your address, and it could mean the difference between success and failure online.
There are a few strategies you can use when coming up with a new domain name for your site. You can try coming up with a completely new phrase for branding purposes (e.g. Google, Yahoo, Flickr, Twitter, etc), you can incorporate important keywords into catchy phrases (e.g. BasketweavingParty.com, DogFoodDepot.com, etc.), or you can try snatching up the exact match domain name for your main keyword (e.g. Cellphones.com, Computers.com, Tennis.com, etc.).

A couple months ago, Stephane Grenier sent me a book that he put together called Blog Blazers. In it, Stephane interviews 40 top bloggers who “share their secrets to creating a high-profile, high-traffic, high-profit blog.” Some of the most prominent bloggers featured include Aaron Wall, Seth Godin, Yaro Starak, Neil Patel, and J.D. Roth among others.
It’s actually a pretty good book on blogging. If you need some inspiration, I recommend you pick it up for a quick read. However, there is actually one gaping hole in the book. I’m not in it. 😛

Well, it’s final folks. The results are in and apparently I am the winner of the 2009 SEMMY award for SEO. It’s pretty crazy and unexpected if you ask me. I guess this is the part where I rush on stage and make my acceptance speech. So here goes…

Do you want to make money online selling information? My last two articles focused on why you need to sell information products and then how to actually create them. Today I want to finish up the series by describing the best way to market your products and get people to buy.
There’s so much free information on the Internet and even the paid content is gaining a lot more prominence. With all of the competition, why should anyone buy from you? What makes your customers choose you over the other options? It comes down to three components – presentation, personality, and perception of value.
