Selling info products is one of the most lucrative business models on the web and there are tons of opportunities whether you’re completely new or already have an established site. With proper planning and some hard work, you’ll be well on your way of finding a loyal audience and making a killing with your products. Are you ready to take your business to the next level?

Back in April, I wrote a guest post for Search Engine Journal called 12 Steps to Complete Search Engine Domination – From Zero to Hero in Just 6 Months. I originally wrote it to participate in an SEO competition SEJ was having, but it looks like a lot of people enjoyed the article – so much that I’m a finalist for a 2009 SEMMY award in the SEO category!
The SEMMYs is a project created by Matt McGee and highlights the year’s best posts in search engine marketing. It features a lot of great content put together by some of the best search professionals.

Millions of new blog posts spring up each and every day around the web. There’s just so much information out there and it’d literally take someone a lifetime to consume a week’s worth of all of the new blog posts on the Internet. So how do you keep up?
Social media is effective because it acts as a filter. The community decides what’s important and what’s not and makes it easy for people to focus on relevant items. Social news sites like Digg, Reddit, Delicious, and StumbleUpon play a huge role in how people consume information in this new web 2.0 (3.0?) age and if you own your own site or online business, getting on these sites can send huge amounts of traffic.

A common question many Internet marketers have is, “what do I sell online?” In fact, it could be a question you’re asking yourself right now – especially if you don’t already have an established business. What’s the best way to make money online? Is it through selling advertisements on your blog? Selling collectibles, jewelry, or sporting goods? Providing consulting services? With unlimited opportunities and countless ideas being pushed every day, it’s no wonder why Internet entrepreneurs and marketers are always so confused.
So what’s the best product to sell online? Without a doubt, it’s information.

“The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.” I’m sure you’ve heard this cliche a number of times before, and it rings true in Western society. The more money you have, the easier it is to make even more money. On the flip side, the poor are oppressed by society with rules and norms stacked against them. It takes an extraordinary amount of hard work, dedication, and luck for a poor person to rise above the ranks and “get rich”.
Let me illustrate with a few examples.

“Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” This is a common piece of business advice that I’m sure you’ve all heard before. Investors and entrepreneurs are frequently told to diversify pretty much everything – from income streams and products to business partners and markets. And it makes sense. Diversifying helps you to manage your risk and create a more stable business model regardless of whether you’re in the finance industry or in Internet marketing. If one thing goes down, you have a whole arsenal of other options to keep you alive. It’s never a good thing to rely on just one thing to be successful.

A few days ago I wrote that blogging for ads is dead and that you sell yourself short by doing so. There are so many better and more effective ways to monetize your blog and selling ads becomes rubbish once you realize them. Be sure to read that post if you haven’t already.
Today I want to expand on the topic and talk more specifically about building a business starting with your blog. In fact, a blog is an amazing tool and offers the perfect launching pad to blast off your business.
What do I mean?

What does it take to be successful? If you run an online business, you know how difficult it can be to reach your goals and make money online. My buddy Derek Halpern of Prevential is currently writing a blog series about success factors where he describes how people and companies achieve success. Do you have what it takes to be successful?
Derek is writing a post in the series everyday for the month of January. He’s already included articles about putting all of your eggs in one basket (going against common thought), learning from your competition, avoiding decision making mistakes, and prioritizing what’s important now. Basically it’s the closest thing to a success formula (if such a thing even exists) and will motivate you to develop the mindset of a successful businessperson.
