Booyah! I’m a 2009 SEMMY Award Winner for SEO – My Acceptance Speech
February 4, 2009 - Written by Gyutae Park
Well, it’s final folks. The results are in and apparently I am the winner of the 2009 SEMMY award for SEO. It’s pretty crazy and unexpected if you ask me. I guess this is the part where I rush on stage and make my acceptance speech. So here goes…
It’s truly an honor for me to win this award. With all of the awesome SEO posts in 2008, it’s hard to believe that mine is considered the best (good thing “best” is subjective…). It’s funny because two of the guys I competed with in the category, Aaron Wall and Lee Odden, are on my list of top 10 SEO bloggers. I respect them a lot and to beat them out at their own game is unbelievable. I only started this blogging thing just over a year ago so I want to thank them for providing the inspiration (as much as I want to rub it in.. haha).
Also, what’s ironic about me winning this SEMMY for SEO is that I originally wrote the winning article as a submission for a different competition held at Search Engine Journal. I didn’t win it of course but somehow I end up winning this one. Hey, I’ll take it. It just goes to show that Loren Baker rigged that competition.
Anyway, thanks to Loren for letting me publish the article on Search Engine Journal and to all my “fans” on Winning the Web for spamming voting for me. Cheers!
Here’s the winning article again in case you finally want to read it. Apparently not many of you read the articles before voting.

Congratulations on the SEMMY and nice work on the article! I know what you mean about the heavy hitters in your category – I’m honestly waiting for the hubris of beating Danny, Aaron, Lee and Avinash in the Industry category to rain some sort of terrible karmic vengeance on me.
If the universe punishes us for our arrogance, give me a call, and I’ll buy you a beer
Congrats on your win as well, Pete! Well I guess we’ll have to wait and see about the “karmic vengeance”. But if it means getting a free beer out of it, hey why not.
Are you going to any conferences this year? We should definitely celebrate. Haha.
Congrats on the win! You’ve done and won just about everything so what are you going to do now
Haha, thanks Marios. I think I’ll stop winning awards and make some money now.
Wow Congrats Gyutae! What did you get for winning that?
Ben
Thanks Ben. I didn’t get anything from winning the SEMMY other than a nice ego boost. Haha, I’m sure it will open up some future opportunities though.
Nice work! I am sure it was my vote that put you over the top – so, you are welcome. j/k!
That is awesome. I am not much for the karma thing – but it looks like it came back around for you in winning this award.
Yep, must have been your vote Will. Thanks, couldn’t have done it without you!
I’m glad you’re getting a lot out of my posts – hope others can say the same as well.
wow… congrats dude. I didn’t actually think you’ll win it but you did..
Haha, thanks Melvin, of you of little faith!
