October 30, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park

SEO Book is probably the best book on search engine optimization currently available. This is partly due to the fact that the book is updated (free of charge) on a regular basis which is crucial for any fast-moving Internet industry. Aaron also shares his insights on search frequently on the SEO Book blog and a lot of what he has to offer is first-rate industry leading stuff. Good work Aaron!

With that said, I’m going to hold a contest here at Winning the Web. The winner gets a free copy of SEO Book, a $79 value. I’ve personally read the entire ebook and definitely recommend it to anyone who has a website, beginner and professing pro.

Thirst is Nothing, Image is Everything

October 30, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park

sprite can - image & thirstRemember that old Sprite commercial where the big sweaty basketball player runs around and does a few slam dunks, then grabs a nice cold bottle of Sprite and proudly proclaims the obviously scripted line, “Image is nothing, thirst is everything. Obey your thirst”? Well I’m going to come out right now and say that Sprite is full of crap. Thirst is nothing and image is everything. No matter how thirsty you are to accomplish your goals, no matter how hard you try, and no matter what you do to succeed in the online world, you will be spinning your wheels in futile efforts unless you portray the right IMAGE. Yeah, that’s right Sprite. Take that! Nothing but carbonated sugar water anyway.

Micro Sites = Mega Mistake, Why You Should Focus on One Site

October 27, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park

Mega ManWhen making money online, people think that they can create small niche sites that generate $1 a day, and replicate this 1,000 times in order to make $1,000 a day. Although this sounds great in theory, it is definitely not the best approach to take. The business model is not sustainable, scalable, nor feasible in many cases.

Page Rank Slam of Oct 2007 – A Slogan for Bloggers

October 25, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park

As you may know, many well-known and popular blogs and authoritative sites have been hit by a page rank slam the past couple of days. Some of these sites include Forbes, The Washington Post, Engadget, and Search Engine Roundtable just to name a few. Why did this happen? Well, there are many theories floating around but it seems like this is a warning from Google to sites selling or buying links or engaging in link practices that attempt to manipulate search engine results. However, despite the decrease in PR, these sites have the same level of traffic, if not more. We’ll see how this pans out, but for now this just looks like a scare tactic by Google to keep webmasters from selling links and to turn the whole link brokering industry upside down.

Content is King But You’ve Got No Kingdom!

October 25, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park

Content is KingYou know what they say. Content is king. But where does a king reign if he has no throne? Heck, what’s the use of a king if he’s got no kingdom? And now you may be asking what the heck I’m talking about. What exactly is a kingdom? Well in the Internet website world, the kingdom is the audience of users and visitors, the throne is the website design and navigational structure, and the king is well, the content. Each of these different elements depends on the others and needs them in order to function properly. A king would not be a king without a throne and a kingdom. A kingdom would come to anarchy without a proper king. And a throne would be kind of lonely without a king to sit on it. In the same way, a web site’s content, structure, and audience are all interdependent. If you want to create an effective website that will make money online, you need to make sure that all of these elements are up to par and are working together flawlessly. Let’s go deeper into the individual components to see what each requires.

Use Your Interests to Feed Your Sites

October 24, 2007 - Written by Gyutae Park

Feed Your Sites with Your InterestsClose your eyes and think back 10 or more years ago when you didn’t have a website or dreams of success in Internet business. Hard to imagine, huh? Well try to remember what your main interests were. What were your favorite hobbies? Areas of expertise? A lot of times, thoughts of starting a business cloud your judgment about what you like and are good at doing. These days Internet publishers seem to be flocking to the more lucrative industries, simply because they think that there’s more money to be earned. However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth and it is actually much more profitable to go after a topic or niche that might not have as much money involved but is something that you are both interested in and are good at. Here’s why:
